Diabetes rarely takes independence all at once
November is National Diabetes Month.
Diabetes doesn't usually take independence in a single event. Over years, high blood sugar damages the eyes, kidneys, nerves, blood vessels, heart and brain. It causes about 44% of new kidney failure cases, leads to about 150,000 amputations a year, doubles the risk of heart attack and roughly doubles to triples the risk of dementia. Nerve damage in the feet also causes falls.
Our free diabetes paper explains which complications most often lead to needing daily help, and the steps that protect independence.
